Max Lockwood Band
Songwriter, vocalist, and poet Max Lockwood channels the flair of Tom Petty and the eloquence of the Beat Generation’s finest to create a sound rooted in songcraft and heartfelt lyricism and bound with elements of rock and roll, folk and pop. With full arrangements and rich poetic focus, the listener is led into a deep sonic landscape by songs that seek to uncover truths of love, adversity, and growth.
The first note Max Lockwood sings has the undeniable ability to capture the attention of any crowd. His powerful voice, akin to the likes of Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen, grips listeners with its raw emotion and sheer possibility. With each song, a story is told with rich, vulnerable tones and unbridled emotions.
Max’s original music not only focuses on his insightful lyrical stylings, but features delicate harmonies, satisfying arrangements, and skillful instrumental solos. As a fan of many musical genres, Max’s record reflects his favorite elements of classic rock, pop, and folk. The intertwined essences bring a thoughtful and fresh new take on the singer-songwriter genre.
Max Lockwood’s debut record, “Outrider”, served as his senior thesis at the University of Michigan for his degree in creative writing. Five years later in 2019, Max released his highly anticipated self-titled sophomore album. This record can be most easily described as lush, featuring guest vocals from Lindsay Lou and Sam Cooper. Like Max’s first record, it holds true to a singer-songwriter approach with its vulnerable lyrics. The latest album shows growth and offers up something new in a surprising way. Max describes the album as “pop-sensible” in reference to the full, composed arrangements that reflect a refined maturity. As a multi-instrumentalist, Max has a keen ear to develop a soundscape that perfectly compliments his lyrics.
In addition to pursuing his solo career, Max is the front man for Michigan based Tom Petty tribute band, The Insiders. He can also be found on stage with one of folk’s favorite songbirds, May Erlewine, providing smooth bass and vocal harmonies. When Max isn’t touring, he resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he is focused on writing new material and growing as a music educator.
Max’s latest self-titled album is out now.
